Draft Decision Signals Progress for Waitaha Hydro Project

Westpower, together with our partners Poutini Ngāi Tahu, welcome the draft decision to grant approvals for the Waitaha Hydro Project.
This is an important step towards improving resilience of the electricity supply on the West Coast and contributing to Aotearoa New Zealand’s climate change commitments.
Westpower Chief Executive Peter Armstrong said “We are encouraged to see the Waitaha Hydro Project move forward. This is a major step for renewable energy in the region and New Zealand. We are committed to progressing responsibly, in partnership with Poutini Ngāi Tahu and our local communities.”
As this is a draft decision, Westpower will continue to work constructively with all stakeholders towards a positive final decision.
